Storm Surge Warning Issued for Coastal Dixie: Act Now!
A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, with life-threatening storm surge, flooding rain, and tornadoes possible. Shelter in place, complete evacuations, and heed all warnings immediately.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee warns of life-threatening storm surge with the potential for 3-5 feet above ground in surge-prone areas through Saturday morning.
Residents in affected areas are urged to shelter against life-threatening storm surge. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of 3-6 inches and locally higher amounts expected. Moderate flooding is possible, potentially requiring evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
Furthermore, a Tornado Watch is in effect, indicating conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
Wind speeds are forecast to be below tropical storm force, with peaks of 10-20 mph and gusts to 30 mph, posing little to no impact. However, the primary threats remain storm surge, flooding rain, and tornadoes.
