A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Southern Hancock County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 4:13 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans, LA. Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Residents in Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland are urged to complete evacuation efforts and flood preparations now, before conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.
Significant impacts are possible, including inundation with storm surge flooding accentuated by waves, damage to buildings near the coast, and washed-out sections of near-shore escape routes. Moderate damage to marinas and piers is also expected.
Winds are forecast to be below tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 40 mph. Localized rainfall flooding may occur, potentially prompting evacuations in vulnerable areas. No tornadoes are expected.
