A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Marengo County, including Demopolis and Linden, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This watch is effective immediately as of October 8 at 12:59 PM CDT and expires at 9:00 PM CDT on October 8. Residents should prepare for severe conditions.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot. Scattered power and communications outages are anticipated. Residents should complete all remaining property protection efforts as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, are expected, leading to a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of moderate flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and localized rapid inundation at underpasses and low-lying areas is possible, making driving hazardous.

The situation is also somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. Residents should include the potential for tornadoes in their emergency plans. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. Limited tornado damage, including roofs peeled off, downed trees, and power disruptions, is possible.
