A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Marengo County, including Demopolis and Linden, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning at 10:27 PM CDT on October 8, and it remains in effect until 6:30 AM CDT on October 9. Residents are urged to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could cause damage to unanchored structures, break large tree limbs, and lead to scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible, especially on elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is a significant threat, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action can result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though gusty winds and thunderstorms are still possible. For more information and preparedness tips, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
