A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Marengo County, including Demopolis and Linden, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding expected; residents should move to shelter and prepare for potential power outages and impassable roads.
MARENGO COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Marengo County, effective immediately. Residents in Demopolis and Linden should complete all remaining property protection efforts as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
The warning, issued today, October 9, at 4:08 AM CDT, forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. There is a potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Impacts could include damage to unanchored mobile homes and sheds, broken tree limbs, and some snapped or uprooted trees. A few roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages are possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Marengo County can expect 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The tornado threat remains low, with tornadoes not expected at this time. The warning is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 12:15 PM UTC.
