Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Marengo County: Prepare for Severe Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Marengo County, including Demopolis and Linden, with severe winds and significant flooding expected; residents should secure property and prepare for potential evacuations and power outages.
MARENGO COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Marengo County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. The warning specifically impacts Demopolis and Linden. This warning will remain in effect until 6:30 PM UTC today.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds between 39 and 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 55 mph. Efforts to secure property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
Significant rainfall is also expected, with a Flood Watch in effect. An additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Many large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot, leading to impassable roads. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt several evacuations and rescues, and rivers and tributaries could overflow. Driving conditions will become hazardous.
The NWS indicates that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected at this time. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
