Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Marengo: Prepare for Dangerous Winds, Major Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Marengo County, including Demopolis and Linden, with dangerous winds up to 73 mph and major flooding expected. Residents must complete preparations now and seek safe shelter.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Marengo County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. The warning includes the communities of Demopolis and Linden. Residents are advised to complete all remaining preparations to protect life and property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. This level of wind can cause significant damage to roofing, siding, porches, and sheds. Mobile and manufactured homes are particularly vulnerable. Unsecured objects may become dangerous projectiles. Expect several large trees to be snapped or uprooted, and some roads may become impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are likely.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, with locally higher amounts. The NWS warns of the potential for major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could rapidly overflow their banks, and small streams may become dangerous. Floodwaters could enter structures, and streets may become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The tropical storm warning expires on October 10, 2026, at 3:00 AM UTC. Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though gusty winds from showers and thunderstorms may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast changes. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
