A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Marengo County, including Demopolis and Linden, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 4:07 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents should prepare for hazardous conditions.

Peak wind forecasts anticipate 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect broken tree limbs, potential downed trees, and some impassable roads due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also a possibility. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. The NWS forecasts 3-6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, posing a moderate flooding risk. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected, though gusty winds and thunderstorms may still occur.

This warning is effective until October 9 at 12:15 AM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
