DeFuniak Springs Fire Services Assessment Vote 2026

Staff Writer
June 12, 2026
DeFuniak Springs to Vote on Fire Services Assessment

DeFuniak Springs City Council will consider a Non-Ad Valorem Fire Services Assessment that could begin in October 2026, creating dedicated funding for fire response, staffing, training, equipment and prevention programs.

The city proposed three rate options for residential properties: $238 annually per dwelling unit at 60 percent funding, $218 at 55 percent, or $199 at 50 percent. Commercial, industrial, institutional and vacant properties would pay rates based on square footage or classification. A professional methodology study determined the assessment structure.

Unlike property taxes, revenue would fund only fire protection services. The city said hardship assistance may be available for eligible homesteaded properties.

City Council will hold public hearings before voting. Residents can review details at defuniaksprings.net/1574/City-Fire-Assessment and submit comments at defuniaksprings.net/1575/Fire-Assessment-Comment-Form.
