The Saint David Legion of Mary, also known locally as "Mary Tower of David," invites Davie residents interested in its lay apostolate to join its ranks. The group focuses on spiritual outreach and community service, holding weekly meetings to encourage active participation in its mission.
Founded in Dublin, Ireland, on September 7, 1921, the Legion of Mary is a global Catholic lay apostolate. It is the largest lay apostolate within the Catholic Church, with endorsements from six popes and the Second Vatican Council. The local chapter, Saint David Legion of Mary, began on September 8, 2007, and marks its sixteenth anniversary this year.
The apostolate's work centers on three areas: reaching out to the unchurched (Conversion), encouraging lapsed Catholics to return to the Church (Conservation), and maintaining connections with homebound, sick, and infirm church members (Consolation). Members engage in spiritual warfare against "the devil, the world, and corrupt nature," with the Blessed Mother Mary guiding their efforts to conquer the world for Christ.
Two membership options are available. Active members attend weekly meetings for prayer, planning, and discussion, and commit to two hours of apostolic work with a partner each week, in addition to praying the Catena Legionis daily. Auxiliary members commit to praying the Rosary and the Legion Tessera prayers daily.
For more information, contact Gabby Espana at 845-770-8012. Prospective members can also attend a meeting on Fridays at 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall, Room 201.
