The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL has issued this warning, urging residents to shelter immediately from life-threatening conditions.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible, with potential for over 6 feet in some areas, through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in safe shelters. If in a storm surge prone area, remain sheltered and move to upper floors if water rises.
Extreme winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 75 mph are expected, with the potential for Category 1 or 2 hurricane force winds (74-110 mph). Protect life by sheltering from these winds now. Further impacts include a Flood Watch with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding and likely evacuations. A few tornadoes are also possible. For evacuation and shelter information, contact Baldwin County EMA at 251-972-6807 or visit www.baldwincountyal.gov/departments/EMA. This warning is effective until 6:00 PM UTC today.
