Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Baldwin Coastal: Evacuate if Ordered
Baldwin Coastal areas, including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan, are under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening inundation expected, alongside hurricane-force winds, heavy rain, and potential tornadoes; evacuate immediately if ordered.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Baldwin Coastal areas, including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan, indicating a danger of life-threatening inundation from rising water. This warning is in effect from the National Weather Service Mobile AL, issued October 7 at 9:53 PM CDT, and expires October 8 at 6:00 AM UTC. Residents in surge-prone areas should prepare for potential storm surge flooding greater than 6 feet above ground.
Evacuation efforts should be completed immediately if orders are given for your area to avoid being cut off from emergency services. The peak storm surge inundation is forecasted to be 4-7 feet above ground, with potential for even higher levels. This threat is expected to materialize from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Alongside the storm surge, a Hurricane Warning is also in effect. Peak winds of 40-50 mph with gusts up to 90 mph are expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning, with a potential for sustained winds of 74 to 110 mph. Extensive damage to roofs, mobile homes, and trees is possible, leading to widespread power and communication outages. Heavy rainfall of 4-8 inches is also predicted, with potential for major flooding. A few tornadoes are also possible.
