BALDWIN COASTAL — An Extreme Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Baldwin Coastal areas, including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 7:27 AM CDT. This warning indicates a life-threatening storm surge is possible, with a potential for 4-6 feet above ground inundation, and a threat for storm surge flooding greater than 6 feet above ground, through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Residents in affected areas should remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside. If necessary, move to upper floors to escape rising water.
Tropical Storm force winds of 35-45 mph, with gusts up to 85 mph, are expected from early this afternoon until early Saturday morning. There is also a potential for wind speeds of 74 to 110 mph. Life-threatening wind is unfolding; residents must shelter from these conditions. A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding from heavy rain; evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A few tornadoes are also possible. Stay within your shelter and remain informed of the latest tornado situation. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter.
