A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Baldwin Coastal areas, including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective today, October 7, at 11:09 AM CDT. Life-threatening inundation from rising water is possible within the next 48 hours, with a potential for 4-7 feet above ground somewhere within surge-prone areas, and potentially greater than 6 feet above ground. Evacuation preparations should be underway for residents in these areas.

A Hurricane Watch is also in effect, indicating hurricane-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. Peak winds of 55-70 mph with gusts up to 100 mph are forecast, with tropical storm force winds expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Extensive damage to roofs, mobile homes, and trees is possible, leading to widespread power and communication outages. Residents should now rigorously pursue efforts to protect life and property and complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.

Heavy rainfall of 6-10 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, creating a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. The NWS also indicates a 'somewhat favorable' situation for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
