Independence Gets State Grant for Willamette River Access

Independence received a Recreation Ready grant from Travel Oregon to improve public access to the Willamette River at Riverview Park.

Travel Oregon officials visited the park Thursday to assess the site. The Riverview Park Willamette River Access Project will add entry points for kayakers and canoeists while ensuring people with disabilities can access the waterway.

The grant provides funding, training and technical assistance. Independence will work with Travel Oregon staff over the coming months to finalize plans and begin construction.
