Pasco County Commissioners declared a local state of emergency Tuesday in response to the spread of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral infection.
The declaration grants the County Administrator and Emergency Management Director authority to bypass standard procedures and take necessary actions to protect public health and welfare in areas including downtown Dade City and surrounding neighborhoods. The state of emergency will remain in effect for seven days, or until rescinded.
Pasco County is supporting the Pasco County Mosquito Control District and the Florida Department of Health in Pasco County (DOH-Pasco) as they address the outbreak. Residents should follow “Drain and Cover” principles to reduce mosquito breeding grounds and protect themselves from bites, especially after frequent Florida rains.
For more information, contact the Pasco County Mosquito Control District at 727-376-4568 or visit their website. DOH-Pasco can be reached at 727-619-0300 or through its website.
