Dade City residents have an opportunity to enhance their properties and contribute to the local ecosystem this fall. Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources (PRNR) will give away 1,500 trees on Saturday, October 10, at three locations, including Withlacoochee River Park in Dade City.
This initiative aims to expand the county's tree canopy, support local wildlife habitats, and beautify homes with native plant species. The giveaway is the second of its kind this year, offering a chance for residents to acquire trees for free.
To receive a tree, residents must register through a new lottery-based system. Registration opened on September 21 and will close on October 1. Those selected to receive a tree will be notified by October 2.
The tree pick-up event is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, from 8 a.m. to Noon. In addition to Withlacoochee River Park, located at 12449 Withlacoochee Blvd. in Dade City, trees can also be collected at Starkey Wilderness Park in New Port Richey and Crews Lake Wilderness Park in Shady Hills.
Available tree varieties include Dahoon Holly, Little Gem Magnolia, Red Cedar, and Red Maple. These species are chosen for their suitability to the local environment and their benefits to the ecosystem.
PRNR encourages participation to help grow the county's green infrastructure and promote environmental stewardship among residents. Interested individuals can register at mypas.co/FreeTreeRegistration.
