Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Coastal Wakulla: Prepare for Surge, Rain
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, urging residents to prepare for life-threatening storm surge, potential flooding, and possible tornadoes from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, effective immediately until October 8 at 1:00 AM UTC. Residents in these areas should finalize storm preparations, particularly for life-threatening storm surge and potential flooding.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee reports a potential for 4-6 feet of storm surge above ground, with a concern window from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation orders may be issued; if so, leaving immediately is critical for safety. Significant impacts are possible, including damage to coastal buildings, weakened escape routes, major beach erosion, and damage to marine structures.
Additional rainfall of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a risk of moderate flooding. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. A few tornadoes are also possible, and an increase in this threat has been noted. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
While wind speeds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (20-30 mph with gusts to 35 mph), conditions may still be gusty. Local officials are currently assessing realized wind impacts.
