Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Inland Wakulla, Major Flooding Expected
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Inland Wakulla, including Crawfordville and Wakulla Springs, until 1:30 PM UTC today, with major flooding and several tornadoes expected. Residents should take immediate action and prepare for dangerous conditions.
WAKULLA COUNTY, FL – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Inland Wakulla, effective immediately as of 5:17 AM EDT, expiring at 1:30 PM UTC today. This warning specifically impacts Crawfordville and Wakulla Springs. Residents are urged to take immediate action regarding potential major flooding and be prepared for several tornadoes.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts, expected. The NWS indicates the potential for major flooding rain, with extensive impacts including widespread evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow their banks, and small streams could become dangerous. Floodwaters may enter many structures, and driving conditions will become dangerous due to road and bridge closures.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, which could cause significant damage, power loss, and communication failures. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
While peak winds are forecast at 10-15 mph with gusts to 35 mph, the NWS advises a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Little to no storm surge inundation is currently forecast. For ongoing updates, monitor official channels from NWS Tallahassee (www.weather.gov/tallahassee), Florida Division of Emergency Management (www.floridadisaster.org), and Wakulla County Emergency Management (www.wcso.org/emergency-management).
