Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Coastal Wakulla: Prepare for Life-Threatening Surge
A Tropical Storm Warning is active for Coastal Wakulla, urging residents in Saint Marks and Panacea to prepare for life-threatening storm surge, potential tornadoes, and moderate flooding from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, as of 5:03 AM EDT on October 8, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL. Residents should prioritize preparations for life-threatening storm surge and potential tornadoes.
Significant storm surge flooding is possible, with peak inundation of 4-6 feet above ground in surge-prone areas. This threat is expected from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed immediately. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave to avoid being cut off from emergency services. This storm surge could cause damage to buildings, roads, and marinas, with major beach erosion.
While sustained winds are forecast to be below tropical storm force (10-20 mph with gusts to 35 mph), there is a potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Additionally, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. The NWS also forecasts an additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, and a Flood Watch is in effect. Moderate flooding from heavy rain is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues.
