Tropical Storm Warning for Inland Wakulla: High Wind, Flood, Tornado Threats
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Inland Wakulla, including Crawfordville and Wakulla Springs, with expected high winds, significant flooding potential, and an increased threat of tornadoes. Heed all warnings and prepare for immediate action.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Inland Wakulla, effective October 8 at 5:03 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This warning signifies that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours for areas including Crawfordville and Wakulla Springs. The warning is set to expire on October 8 at 1:15 PM UTC.
Residents should prepare for potential impacts. While peak wind forecasts are 10-15 mph with gusts to 30 mph, there is a potential for wind speeds of 39 to 57 mph. Local officials advise listening for instructions and ensuring emergency readiness. Community officials are currently assessing realized wind impacts, with little to no additional wind impacts expected.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with additional rainfall of 2-4 inches expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This poses a significant risk of moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and roads may become hazardous.
The NWS also indicates a situation favorable for tornadoes, with the threat increasing. There is a potential for several tornadoes. Residents should be prepared to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. Scattered tornadoes could cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
There is little to no storm surge flooding expected. However, rough surf, coastal erosion, and life-threatening rip currents are possible. Monitor forecasts and follow instructions from local officials.
