Storm Surge Warning Issued for Coastal Wakulla, Life-Threatening Flooding Expected
A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, with life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground expected from Friday morning until Saturday morning; residents should complete evacuations and preparations immediately.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, effective immediately, October 8, at 5:03 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Life-threatening storm surge flooding of 4-6 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Residents in these areas should complete evacuation efforts and flood preparations now, as conditions may become unsafe.
If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts are anticipated, including inundation with storm surge flooding, damage to buildings near the coast, and weakened or washed-out sections of escape routes. Major beach erosion, heavy surf, and strong rip currents are also expected.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, potentially leading to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes. Be prepared to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. While wind is expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusts up to 35 mph are possible.
