A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, by the National Weather Service Tallahassee FL, effective October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Residents in surge-prone areas are urged to evacuate immediately if orders are given to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Emergency preparations, including flood preparations, should be completed now before conditions become unsafe. Significant impacts are expected, including inundation of coastal areas, damage to buildings, and weakened or washed-out escape routes. Major beach erosion and strong rip currents are also anticipated.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 6-10 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues due to heavy rain. Furthermore, the situation is favorable for several tornadoes, and residents should be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.

Stay informed through NWS Tallahassee at weather.gov/tallahassee, the Florida Division of Emergency Management at floridadisaster.org, and Wakulla County Emergency Management at wcso.org/emergency-management. This warning expires October 9 at 7:15 AM UTC.
