Miami residents are encouraged to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October by considering the significant contributions individuals with disabilities make to the workforce. Best Buddies Jobs highlights the untapped potential within this community, emphasizing the value of inclusive hiring practices.

The National Core Indicators reports that over 80% of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities remain unemployed. Best Buddies Jobs works to bridge this divide by connecting job seekers with employment opportunities that align with their skills, interests, and career goals.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the 81st anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month,” said a representative from Best Buddies. “At Best Buddies, we strive to see the individual. We look beyond what’s on paper to see the value in their character, lived experience, unique skill, and the way they make others feel.”

The organization stresses that hiring individuals with disabilities can reveal unique strengths and perspectives, leading to stronger workplaces. Currently, more than 1,100 people are employed through the Best Buddies Jobs program across the United States, with over 300 actively seeking employment. The initiative aims to create mutual success for job seekers and employers.

Best Buddies encourages the Miami community to acknowledge the contributions of colleagues with disabilities and consider the benefits of inclusive hiring.
