FAST Planning Draft Interim Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Update & Draft Air Quality Conformity Analysis 30-Day Public Comment Period

FAIRBANKS – The Fairbanks Metropolitan Area Transportation System (FMATS) is seeking public input on two important documents: the Draft Interim Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Update and the Draft Air Quality Conformity Analysis. A 30-day public comment period is now open, allowing residents and interested parties to review and provide feedback on these crucial transportation planning documents. Public comments are vital to ensure that the MTP Update and Air Quality Conformity Analysis accurately reflect the community's needs and concerns. Written comments can be submitted via email to [email protected] or by mail to FMATS Planning, P.O. Box 70076, Fairbanks, AK 99707. The public comment period will close on Monday, July 29, 2024. Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Update

Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Update Community Wildfire Protection Plan Information The purpose of the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is to identify fire hazard reduction strategies for the FNSB that are balanced with sustainable ecological management and fiscal resources and to provide educational resources for residents to enhance fire preparedness. The CWPP process assists FNSB in developing an appropriate and desired wildfire protection plan that addresses elements of community protection. The development of this updated CWPP will help make the FNSB more fire-safe by identifying and managing fire risk in the wildland-urban interface (WUI). A successful CWPP will improve the region’s ability to prepare for wildland fires by providing an opportunity to cooperatively identify potential opportunities for fire hazard reduction, recommending best practices for fuel reduction treatments, recommending measures to reduce structural ignitability, and providing residents with educational resources about fire preparedness in their communities. Interested in making a difference? There are several ways that you can support the shelter and pets! Foster Our foster program focuses on providing loving care for animals who need a little extra time before they can be adopted. This includes animals recovering from surgery and underage animals needing a home environment to heal and/or mature. It also helps extend our capacity and gives animals who need a break from the shelter environment a home experience. If you would like to participate in our foster program, please contact us for an application! Tundra Tails To Trails We are excited to introduce our new program that pairs community members with shelter dogs for field trips! Field trips are designed for daytime outings only. This program was created to help reduce kennel stress, provide dogs with enrichment, and increase their visibility for adoption! It also gives the shelter valuable insight into how the dogs behave outside the shelter environment. Please review the program materials prior to contacting the shelter. This program is available by appointment only! Tundra Tails To Trails Manual Volunteer Our shelter greatly appreciates our community and how you support us! Shelter pets benefit from the simple things in life, such as folded newspapers. This is a great way to volunteer from the comfort of your own home or with a group. If you are interested and would like instructions, please contact us. In-person volunteering is currently only available to adults. Please fill out this form and submit to Animal Control: Volunteer Application Donate We greatly appreciate your donations, whether monetary or in-kind. Thank you in advance for thinking of us! The Shelter Fund Founded in 2002, the Fairbanks Animal Shelter Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit striving to make a difference in the lives of all animals who are in the Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter by augmenting services which are not included in the FNSB operating budget. To donate to the Shelter Fund, please visit their website or use the green donation box located inside the shelter lobby. The Pet Pantry The Pet Pantry is very similar to a food/supply bank. Items that are often donated are pet food, cages, accessories, leashes, bowls, blankets, and more. These items are available to those in need and donated items are greatly appreciated by the community. Our Pet Pantry is located next to our front door and is completely self-serve. Shelter Wish List While animals are at the shelter waiting to go home, there are some things that help to make their stay more comfortable. The 2021 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) Update is a technical document that includes recommendations to the city councils, local utilities, and Borough assembly for projects that will help reduce the impact of natural hazards to our communities. Plan approval by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and adoption by each jurisdiction provides access to grant funds and other assistance from the FEMA and the State of Alaska.  The plan profiles six natural hazards—cryosphere, seismic, flood, ground failure, severe weather, and wildland fire—assesses community vulnerability and risk associated with these hazards and presents mitigation strategies for each hazard in order to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property.  Additionally, to further increase the resiliency of our communities, the plan update includes several all-hazard mitigation strategies.  Timeline of Events January 11, 2021 - February 12, 2021: Public comment period.
