A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coosa County, including Rockford, with hazardous winds up to 60 mph and moderate flooding expected; residents should take immediate action to protect property and heed all flood warnings.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coosa County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning is for severe conditions, specifically impacting areas including Rockford, and is set to expire on October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC.

Residents should prepare for hazardous winds of tropical storm force. Peak wind gusts are forecast to reach 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Potential impacts include damage to unanchored mobile homes and sheds, broken large tree limbs, and scattered power and communications outages. Some roads may become impassable due to debris, particularly in urban or heavily wooded areas.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, and locally higher amounts, expected. This could lead to moderate flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS does not anticipate tornadoes in the affected area. For more information and safety guidelines, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
