Tropical Storm Warning for Coosa County: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coosa County, including Rockford, until October 10, with hazardous winds up to 60 mph and significant flooding expected. Residents should complete preparations immediately.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coosa County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL. This warning is in effect until October 10 at 12:30 AM UTC (7:30 PM CDT).
Residents in Rockford and surrounding areas of Coosa County should finalize preparations immediately. Peak wind gusts of 25-35 mph, with potential gusts up to 60 mph, are expected. Prepare for hazardous wind and potential limited damage to properties such as porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways due to debris.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for Coosa County, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is a significant threat, which may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and small streams and ditches may overflow. Floodwaters could impact structures and roads, leading to closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time, but gusty winds and thunderstorms are still possible.
