COOSA COUNTY, AL — A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Coosa County, including the community of Rockford, effective today, October 9, 2026, at 4:08 AM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This watch is set to expire today at 12:15 PM UTC (7:15 AM CDT).

Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding. Peak wind forecasts range from 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, but the NWS warns of the potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property, such as porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, is possible. Expect broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Anticipate 1-3 inches of rain, with higher localized amounts, which could lead to moderate flooding. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. Driving conditions may become hazardous, and some road closures are possible, especially in underpasses and low-lying areas.

The NWS indicates that tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and safety guidelines, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
