COOSA COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Coosa County, effective from October 9 at 1:19 AM CDT. Residents in Rockford and surrounding areas should finalize preparations for hazardous weather conditions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL.
Peak winds are forecast between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. There is potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, with preparations for limited wind damage. Act now to complete preparations before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This brings a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter.
