Residents and visitors along the South Central Oregon Coast, specifically the beaches of Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties, are advised to stay away from the ocean and out of the water due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Medford, OR.

A moderate risk for sneaker waves is expected from late Saturday night, October 10, through Monday afternoon, October 12. The NWS indicates the risk will be highest during Sunday morning. This condition is due to short period north-northwest wind waves interacting with a building west-northwest long period swell.

Sneaker waves can unexpectedly run up beaches, rocks, and jetties, potentially sweeping individuals into the ocean. There is also a risk of logs and other debris being moved by these waves, which could cause injury. To ensure safety, avoid climbing on rocks and jetties.
