ACTION REQUIRED: Beach Hazards Statement Issued for South Central Oregon Coast
A Beach Hazards Statement for sneaker waves has been issued for the South Central Oregon Coast, including Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties, from October 9 to October 12; avoid beaches and stay out of the water.
Beachgoers are advised to avoid beaches and stay out of the water along the South Central Oregon Coast due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Medford OR.
A moderate risk for sneaker waves is expected to impact the beaches of Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties. This statement is in effect from early Sunday morning, October 9, until Monday afternoon, October 12.
Sneaker waves can surge significantly farther up the beach than typical waves, posing a danger of sweeping individuals into the ocean or trapping them under moving logs and debris. The NWS warns against climbing on rocks and jetties. Residents and visitors are urged to remain out of the water to avoid these hazardous conditions.
