Concordia Pauses Projects for Infrastructure & Housing
Concordia will halt new municipal initiatives in 2026 to concentrate on maintaining roads, water systems, and parks while addressing a housing shortage, City Manager Amy L. Lange announced this week.
The City Commission maintained three priorities: infrastructure maintenance, community health, and housing development. Lange said staff will complete current projects before taking on new ones.
The city faces a shortage of more than 200 homes, according to a 2022 housing study. Aging stock and a decade without new construction have worsened the gap. Concordia partnered with CloudCorp and local businesses to spur development in the St. Joseph Subdivision and other areas.
The city will increase code enforcement and property maintenance to address blight and unsafe conditions. Lange emphasized responsible financial management and maximizing grants to stretch limited resources.
Residents can expect fewer grant applications for new projects and stronger enforcement of existing policies and ordinances.
