The Commission today passed a special resolution authorizing storm debris pickup in unincorporated Jefferson County for the next 2 weeks (June 4- June 16) Items should be placed on the right-of-way and a request made in the MyJeffCo App under Roads and Transportation "debris removal". If you do not want to use the MyJeffCo App, call 205-325-5141, and request pickup. Please no household items, storm debris, such as limbs, wood, etc.

Jefferson County Site Plan Review Process

The Engineer will submit site plans and all other associated documentation through the Accela Portal / Digital Plan Room. There will be a $10 technology fee and a $50 administration fee that will have to paid. The site plans and associated documentation need to be submitted in a PDF format. Download and review Submission Standards (PDF). Site plans will be categorized by office staff into major or minor site plans. Minor site plan review fee is $350 and will take up to 10 working days to complete the review. The 33 participating consortium cities are: Adamsville, Argo, Brighton, Brookside, Cardiff, Center Point, Clay, County Line, Fairfield, Fultondale, Gardendale, Graysville, Homewood, Hueytown, Irondale, Kimberly, Leeds, Lipscomb, Maytown, Midfield, Morris, Mountain Brook, Mulga, North Johns, Pinson, Pleasant Grove, Sylvan Springs, Tarrant, Trafford, Trussville, Vestavia Hills, Warrior, and West Jefferson.The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)Program funds are provided to Jefferson County, Alabama, from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. Applications for CDBG Program Year 2025 Non-Housing Funding will be announced later this year.Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG)Program funds are allocated to service providers to assist individuals and families quickly regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis or homelessness. Eligible activities include street outreach, emergency shelter, homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing assistance, and HMIS data collection.Consolidated Plans for Community Development ProgramsThe Consolidated Plan helps jurisdictions assess housing and community development needs and make data-driven investment decisions. 5 - Member Board of Equalization Information

Norman Pless Jr., Chairman Jef Freeman, Associate Member Margie George, Associate Member Karen Wadlington, Associate Member Richard Yeilding, Associate Member The Board consists of five members who serve as a quasi-judicial review panel for property owners who wish to challenge the market value of their property.  Market values set by a Property Appraiser may be changed by the Board when a property owner can prove the appraised value is not based on the property’s fair market value. The Board of Equalization is established by the State Code of Alabama, Title 40, Chapter 3. Information about selection, duties, and terms can be found in AL Code § 40-3. Effective July 1, 2024: The Jefferson County Board consists of five members who serve as a quasi-judicial review panel for property owners who wish to challenge the market value and resulting assessment of their property. Market values assessed by a Property Appraiser may be changed by the Board when a property owner can prove the appraised value is not based on the property’s fair market value. The board member position is an appointed position and is not a part of the classified system, nor afforded the rights of a classified position. Board members serve a four-year term and shall not be appointed to more than 2 consecutive terms. Before applying to this position, please review the necessary qualifications that are required: 1. Must be a resident of Jefferson County, Alabama. 2. Must be a registered voter in Jefferson County, Alabama. 3. Must currently be the owner of taxable property in Jefferson County, Alabama. 4. Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in real estate, accounting, or finance. Please see Alabama HB 379 for additional details Note: Based on annual workload demands, Board members typically work 3-5 days per week from 9a-4p. Pending the start date of protest, work can start as early as August and can end as late as February depending on volume. Workload may vary from year to year based on taxpayer demand.

"The Jefferson County Commission met, vetted, and approved 37 resolutions this week. Highlights include the following. You can view the meeting in our online livestream archive.There were 3 public hearings for zoning cases and one carry over case that had already had a public hearing. All items passed.
