Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Webster and Preston: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Webster County, including Preston, with tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and a tornado threat expected; residents must complete preparations immediately.
WEBSTER, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Webster County, including Preston, effective immediately as of October 9 at 11:16 AM EDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours, and residents are urged to complete all preparations now.
Peak wind forecasts anticipate 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Potential impacts include limited damage to outdoor structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force and secure loose outdoor items.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts, expected. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage and power loss, and dangerous projectiles are possible.
This alert is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 7:30 PM UTC. For more information on family emergency plans, visit ready.gov/hurricanes. For local weather conditions, visit weather.gov/atlanta.
