Strong Storm Threatens Washington, Greene Counties; Seek Shelter
A strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail is impacting Washington and Greene counties; residents should seek shelter indoors immediately. The NWS Mobile AL issued this alert, effective until 8:30 PM CDT tonight.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for parts of Washington and Greene counties due to a strong thunderstorm. Residents in the affected areas are advised to seek shelter indoors.
As of 7:52 PM CDT, Doppler radar is tracking a strong thunderstorm located 4 miles east of Fruitdale, or 9 miles southwest of Chatom. This storm is moving south at 25 mph.
Hazards associated with this storm include wind gusts up to 40 to 50 mph and half-inch hail. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, which issued this statement, indicates that these conditions could lead to gusty winds knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is also possible.
Areas expected to be impacted include Deer Park, Tibbie, and Fruitdale. The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and is set to expire at 8:30 PM CDT tonight. If you are outdoors in these locations, consider moving inside a building for safety.
