Snow and Winds Expected Across Arctic Coast Through Friday Night
A Special Weather Statement warns of continued snow and strong winds across the Arctic Coast through Friday night, potentially causing reduced visibility due to blowing snow.
Residents across the Northern Arctic Coast, Central Beaufort Sea Coast, and Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast should prepare for continued periods of snow and strong winds, according to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Fairbanks AK at 2:40 PM AKDT on October 1.
Snow is expected to continue through Friday night before gradually drying on Saturday. An additional 1 to 2 inches of snowfall is possible, bringing overall storm totals to 2 to 4 inches. Isolated areas could see up to 6 inches of total snow.
Strongest winds are anticipated Thursday night into Friday, particularly from Nuiqsut to Kaktovik. Wind gusts up to 30 mph are expected, which may cause blowing and drifting snow, significantly lowering visibility at times. This statement is effective immediately and expires at 7:00 AM UTC on October 2.
