WASHINGTON, AL – A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Washington County, Alabama, including Chatom and Fruitdale, effective immediately until 8:00 PM CDT tonight, September 21. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, issued the warning at 7:29 PM CDT.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection. People currently outdoors should seek shelter inside a strong building and stay away from windows.
At 7:29 PM CDT, NWS radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located over Chatom, moving southwest at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. Expected impacts include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. This warning expires promptly at 8:00 PM CDT.
