Heat Index Up To 110°F Today: Take Precautions
The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for Brooks, Kenedy, Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy, and Cameron counties, warning of heat index values up to 110°F today, October 1, 2026, advising residents to take heat precautions.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Brownsville, TX, warning residents of dangerously high heat index values expected this afternoon into early this evening. The NWS advises residents to drink plenty of water, wear light-colored and light-weight clothing, and take frequent breaks from the heat if spending time outdoors.
The combination of hot temperatures and elevated humidity levels will produce heat index values between 108 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit for several hours. Some locations may briefly experience heat index values exceeding 110 degrees. This statement is effective immediately, October 1, 2026, from 9:20 AM CDT and expires at 6:00 PM CDT today.
The affected areas include Brooks, Inland Kenedy, Starr, Southern Hidalgo, Inland Willacy, Inland Cameron, Coastal Kenedy, Northern Hidalgo, Coastal Willacy, and Coastal Cameron counties. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles due to the extreme heat.
