Residents in Brooks, Kenedy, Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy, and Cameron counties are advised to take precautions today, September 30, due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Brownsville, TX.
Heat Index values are expected to reach between 108 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit for several hours this afternoon into early this evening, with some isolated areas potentially experiencing values briefly exceeding 110 degrees. The NWS issued this statement at 9:23 AM CDT, effective until 6:00 PM CDT today.
Affected areas include Inland Kenedy, Coastal Kenedy, Southern Hidalgo, Northern Hidalgo, Inland Willacy, Coastal Willacy, Inland Cameron, Coastal Cameron, Brooks, and Starr counties.
If you plan to be outdoors, the NWS recommends drinking plenty of water, wearing light-weight and light-colored clothing, and taking frequent breaks from the heat. It is critical that young children and pets are never left unattended in vehicles.
