Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Muscogee: Prepare for Hazardous Conditions
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Muscogee County, including Columbus, with residents advised to prepare immediately for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and the potential for several tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Muscogee County, including Columbus, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, GA, issued the watch today, October 8, at 5:17 PM EDT. Residents should complete preparations now as hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and the potential for several tornadoes are anticipated.
Peak winds are forecast between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, but the potential exists for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to property, including porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, is possible, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, potentially higher in some areas. Moderate rainfall flooding may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and roads may become impassable. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
Furthermore, conditions are favorable for the development of several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. This watch is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 1:30 AM UTC.
