Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Colquitt: Prepare Now!
A Tropical Storm Watch is active for Colquitt County, including Moultrie, with immediate preparations needed for hazardous winds, major flooding potential, and several possible tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Colquitt County, including Moultrie, by the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, FL, effective immediately. This watch is in effect until 4:30 PM UTC today, October 9, 2026. Residents should finalize preparations for hazardous wind, potential major flooding, and several possible tornadoes.
Forecasts indicate peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. However, there is a potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Act now to secure loose objects.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to do so could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued.
