Sheriff Noah Robinson Receives Justice Advocate Award for Mental Health Leadership
EVANSVILLE, IN — On May 13, 2026, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson was recognized by the Indiana Council on Mental Health with the organization’s Justice Advocate of the Year Award for his leadership and continued efforts to improve mental health services within the criminal justice system. Sheriff Robinson was surprised with the award during a recent progress and collaboration meeting involving the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, where officials gathered to discuss the continued success of mental health and reentry initiatives within the Vanderburgh County Jail. The award was presented by Zoe Frantz, President & CEO of the Indiana Council on Mental Health. During the presentation, Frantz highlighted Sheriff Robinson’s commitment to creating meaningful change through collaboration between law enforcement and behavioral health professionals. “From the very beginning of his tenure as Sheriff of Vanderburgh County, Sheriff Robinson brought forward a bold and compassionate vision centered on rehabilitation, not incarceration,” Frantz said. “He understood that many individuals entering the justice system were not simply criminals to be punished, but people struggling with mental illness, addiction, trauma, and unmet needs who deserved care, dignity, and a pathway toward recovery.” Frantz also recognized the Sheriff’s Office partnership with Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare in creating Indiana’s first Jail Based Competency Restoration Program, calling it a model for collaboration between law enforcement and behavioral health providers. “His leadership reminds us that true public safety is built not only through enforcement, but through treatment, recovery, collaboration, and hope,” Frantz said. The award highlights the collaborative work between the Sheriff’s Office and Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare to address mental health challenges among incarcerated individuals and reduce recidivism through treatment, support, and reentry planning. Over the past year, Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare staff have worked directly inside the Vanderburgh County Jail, providing therapy, medication management, and support services to inmates in need of mental health assistance. Dr. Gregory Unfried, a psychiatrist with Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare in Evansville, was also recognized during the meeting for his work and dedication to the initiative. After 35 years of service at Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, Dr. Unfried retired as a full-time psychiatrist in January 2026, but continues serving the community through part-time work with the Forensic Program. Officials recognized Dr. Unfried for his role as the founding physician of Indiana’s first Jail Based Competency Restoration Program, launched in 2020 through a partnership between Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. Using his experience in forensic psychiatry and leadership roles within Indiana’s behavioral health system, Dr. Unfried helped develop a program focused on psychiatric evaluation, medication management, therapy, peer support, legal education, and case management for justice-involved individuals experiencing serious mental illness. In 2025, Dr. Unfried also helped expand services through the launch of the Forensic Team, providing continued mental health and substance abuse support, court collaboration, and post-release follow-up for individuals transitioning back into the community. Officials credited Dr. Unfried’s advocacy and leadership with helping create a more compassionate and effective approach to behavioral health care within the justice system, focused on treatment, recovery, and reducing recidivism. According to Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare officials, 147 inmates have been served through the program during its first year. Of those individuals, 78% have not re-offended, and 90% left custody with at least one referral for continued care or support services upon release. “Looking at the need within the jail, we’re constantly looking for different things as far as improvement and how we can make access available for all within the jail system as well as once they leave,” said Cedalia Ellis, Director of Community Support Services for Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare. Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare Forensic Program Manager Dannielle Shoenfeld said the partnership is already making a meaningful impact in the community. “We’ve been out here for a year. We’re merging two very different systems, and we’re seeing results, and it’s exciting,” Shoenfeld said. “The idea that we’re all coming together just to help people, and already seeing this impact in the community, is huge.” Sheriff Robinson said the Sheriff’s Office remains committed to improving outcomes for individuals struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, both inside the jail and after release. The Vanderburgh County Jail expansion project, currently under construction, was specifically designed with those needs in mind. The expansion includes a dedicated 10-bed mental health unit and a 32-bed substance abuse unit focused on treatment, recovery, and reducing repeat incarceration. “When you can lower your jail population, you’re not only reducing stress on the staff,” Sheriff Robinson said. “With less stress on staff, there’s less employee turnover, happier employees, better interactions with those in custody, and less stress on the inmates even more importantly.” Sheriff Robinson credited the success of the program to the strong partnership between the Sheriff’s Office, Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, jail staff, and community organizations working together toward long-term solutions. Blue Grass UMC Daily Devotional: May 25-30
May 25-Stand FastWrite out the Scripture.2 Peter 3:11-12a, Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.Observe what it is saying. In regards to the knowledge of the final judgment that is coming to all people and creation, it should impact the way we choose to live today. Peter calls believers to be characterized by holiness and godliness. Holiness combines the ideas of moral purity and being set apart for God’s special purposes. Holiness is the primary attribute of God that describes His absolute purity and the fact that He is set apart as unique and sovereign over all other beings both on earth and in heaven. Godliness is a life that is totally-oriented toward God’s nature and purpose for mankind. Through the influence and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, it increasingly models the life of Jesus in all of our actions, reactions, and relationships. As we remain spiritually alert and wait for the day of the Lord to come, we are to actively pursue the holy presence of God. Biblical waiting does not mean we idly sit back but is an active participation in the kingdom mission to prepare the way for the Lord to come to the lives of others. For the believer, to “look forward” to this day means it is not a day to dread, but a day to eagerly anticipate that we will get to share in all things being made brand new and beautiful again.Relate it to your life. When heaven is on my mind, my daily life increasingly will reveal the attributes of the Lord Jesus.Do something.Lord Jesus, empower me by Your Spirit to live into the holiness and godliness to which I have been redeemed. Amen. May 26-Stand FastWrite out the Scripture.2 Peter 3:12b-13, That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.Observe what it is saying.Peter repeats what he said earlier about the destruction of the heavenly elements by fire on the day of the Lord Jesus’ return. However, as believers in Christ, we do not have to worry about this celestial catastrophe for it is a necessary step for the creation of a new heaven and a new earth where believers will live forever. This will be the place of perfect righteousness where nothing will be able to contaminate this beautiful and holy union of heaven and earth. This is what we long for. This is what we live for. This is what John saw in the Revelation he was given. “Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4)Relate it to your life.We have the most fantastic future ahead if we put our faith and trust in Christ and keep walking with Him.Do something.Lord Jesus, what a beautiful place the new heaven and earth will be! Thank You for the glorious promise that we will get to enjoy this eternal home forever and ever enjoying Your holy and loving presence. Amen.May 27-Stand FastWrite out the Scripture.2 Peter 2:14, So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.Observe what it is saying.“Looking forward to this” refers back to the new heaven and earth we saw in yesterday’s devotional. Christians should eagerly anticipate the day when all things will be made new and beautiful again. As we see this world falling apart around us, we should often think about and long for this day to come. Since this is our destination, we should live now as we are going to live forever. We will be spotless, blameless, and at peace with God. This should be our driving desire each and every day to be found holy and pure. When we do sin, we can be stand blameless before God because we have confessed and repented of our sin and enjoy the forgiveness of God. Our peace with God comes through the gift of Christ who interceded on our behalf by taking our sin upon Himself. Romans 5:1-2a, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.” This peace will last for all eternity because of the grace of God we have accessed by faith in Jesus alone. There is no other way to enjoy this peace but through the great and glorious gift of salvation offered to us through Jesus’ loving and sacrificial gift to us. Relate it to your life.To have the assurance that we have peace with God through Jesus gives us deep peace today about our future.Do something.Lord Jesus, I give you praise for what You did so that I can stand before God in total peace forever. Amen.May 28-Stand FastWrite out the Scripture.2 Peter 3:15-16, Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.Observe what it is saying. Peter returns to this thought of the Lord’s patience in waiting to return to make all things new. When that day happens, it will be too late for anyone else to turn to Him. However, because He waits to culminate all history, more people will be included in the eternal home of heaven and earth. It is interesting that Peter gives a shout out to the Apostle Paul. He indicates that Paul wrote the same kind of message that he is writing. Peter admits that Paul writes some challenging things to understand which less than wise persons alter just as they do other Scriptures which leads to their destruction. He acknowledges that the false teachers he has been warning about are found everywhere with every apostle’s work. Long before Paul’s writings would be included in what we call the New Testament, Peter mentions them in the same breath as the Old Testament Scriptures that have already been established. Peter seems to put them on the same level foretelling that Paul’s writings would one day become canonized as the Word of God. Peter, a prominent leader of the church, gave a strong witness that Paul’s writings were truly from God.Relate it to your life.I can be confident that Scripture contains all that is needed for salvation and eternal life.Do something.Lord Jesus, thank You for giving us Your holy Word so that we can know the way, truth, and life. Amen.May 29-Stand FastWrite out the Scripture.2 Peter 3:17, Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.Observe what it is saying.Peter brings to a conclusion and offers a summary to what he has been calling his readers to pay attention. He offers two final commands. One of which we find in today’s reading and one tomorrow. Today, it is “be on your guard.” He reminds them that he has forewarned them of the danger that these false teachers and scoffers present to the spiritual health of the church. We have been told over and over that we cannot take false teaching lightly. It is destructive to individual souls and to the community of faith. Peter reminds us here what happens when we allow false teaching form our theology: we are carried away. We are carried away from the truth which leads to bad theology which leads to sinful and evil practices. There is no such animal as safe heresy. It always destroys that which is good and holy. In fact, Peter says it can cause those who are in the faith to fall from their security. Peter clearly indicates that once we are saved, it is possible to be led astray by false teaching and lose our salvation. Peter’s main purpose in writing this letter was to warn us to stay alert to avoid such a terrible eternal consequence.Relate it to your life.If I have not already gotten the point, I need to understand today how detrimental bad theology is to my salvation.Do something.Lord Jesus, I plead for your church to be protected from the enemy who works relentlessly to cause us to fall out of faith one way or another. Amen.May 30-Stand FastWrite out the Scripture. 2 Peter 3:18, But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.Observe what it is saying.Instead of “falling away from your secure position” as Peter said in verse 17, he says, “grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” This is the second command in his summary. The first was to “be on your guard” and now the second is “grow.” Grace is a gift from God, but it is also something we mature in as we receive it fully and give it away generously to others. Knowledge of the right gospel message is essential because Peter has laid out the case of what growing in the wrong knowledge will do. Peter gives us the order “Lord and Savior” not “Savior and Lord.” Jesus, as the Son of God, was Lord before He was Savior. He was present in creation. As one of three personalities of the Trinity, He has always existed and as an equal member of the Godhead, He is Lord over all. He was sent to earth to become our Savior. So, “Savior” is Jesus’ second title because His work as such came second to His eternal Lordship. Peter reminds us that in all things, Jesus is to be given glory today, tomorrow, and forevermore. We breathe, live, grow, serve, and love for the single purpose of bringing much praise and attention to Jesus. Relate it to your life. When I am growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I will bring Him much glory and praise.Do something.Lord Jesus, keep me growing. Don’t let me become stagnant or comfortable in my walk with You. I desire to give you continual praise with all that I say and do. May you be glorified in my life today. Amen.

CFC Study Questions: Confessions (April 19, 2026)
Confessions by Reid SchultheisRead Romans 10:9; James 5:16; Psalm 32:1-5; and 1 John 1:7-9.Reid shares about the "terrifying" experience of making his first confession in a dimly lit room as a child. Why is it so uncomfortable for us to lay out our "inside reality" to God or to another person?Read Romans 10:9. Reid notes there is a big difference between saying "I believe there is a God" and "I believe Jesus is the Lord". What does it mean to you personally to declare that Jesus has the right to demand you live a certain way?Read James 5:16. Reid points out that while we often focus on the "sexy" second half of this verse about powerful prayer, the first half is an "abundantly clear" command. Why is it important to see confession as a requirement of discipleship rather than an optional suggestion?Biblical Anthropology. The sermon explains that we are "embodied souls"—material and immaterial entities joined together. How does the truth that sin is stored up in our bodies (affecting us physically) change your understanding of why we need to deal with it?Read Psalm 32:3-5. David describes his body "wasting away" and his strength "evaporating" when he refused to confess. Have you ever felt a physical or emotional weight lift after finally being honest about a struggle or sin? Discuss.Forgiveness vs. Healing. Reid argues that we go to God for forgiveness, but we often go to one another for healing. How does having a brother or sister in Christ stay with you after a confession help you experience the love of God, rather than just knowing it as a fact?Read 1 John 1:7-9. The text links "living in the light" with having "fellowship with each other." Reid states that our relationship with Jesus is deeply personal but not private. How do your "hidden" sins impact the rest of the church body, even if no one else knows about them?Sins of Omission. Beyond direct hurts, the sermon mentions that sin robs the church of the time, energy, and resources you could have used to serve your neighbor. How does this perspective convict you to prioritize reconciliation within your community? The Heart of Confession. Reid emphasizes that confession is not a "secret sauce"—it is an act of trust in the finished work of Jesus. Why must we be convinced that Jesus’ sacrifice was "sufficient" before we will ever be brave enough to confess? The Seven A’s. Review Ken Sande’s "7 A’s of a Good Confession" (Address everyone, Avoid 'if/but', Admit specifically, Acknowledge hurt, Accept consequences, Alter behavior, Ask for forgiveness). Which of these is usually the hardest for you to include in an apology?Close in Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind any specific person you need to confess to this week. Pray for the humility and courage to value God's glory and the unity of the church above your own comfort.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Analogy for Understanding: When we sin, it is like thunderclouds rolling in to block out the sun. We know the sun (God’s love) is still there, but we can no longer feel its warmth on our skin. Confessing our sins to one another is like the wind that parts the clouds, allowing us to once again experience the reality of the grace that was there all along.
CFC High School Ministry Returns from Dominican Republic Mission Trip
Two of CFC’s Core Values are Missions and Children & Students. We’re excited to update you on how we were recently able to glorify God in both of those areas. Over the EVSC Spring Break, our High School Ministry took 20 people to the Dominican Republic for their annual mission trip. This team spent months together in preparation for what God would do through them. As a first for our HSM teams, this group went on a weekend retreat in January where they spent extended time getting to know one another better and growing spiritually. One of the most memorable moments from this trip came on the last morning in La Cola when an opportunity was created for the team to join high school students from the community. Over the course of their time together, both CFC students and Dominican students were given the opportunity to share about their high school experiences, hopes for the future, and much more. Through conversation, a couple of high school girls from La Cola opened up about their unfortunate experiences with unloving fathers. They explained different ways they felt as if they were unable to be loved. A group of CFC students explained the gospel and demonstrated the loving heart of our Heavenly Father. They demonstrated how God not only communicates His love verbally but through actions, and none of these actions are more important than the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus. These girls saw God as He has truly revealed Himself and came to trust Christ in that very moment! Throughout the trip, the team was focused on being Spirit-led and obeying all He was calling them to do. As a result of this, students saw God work in incredible ways and were deeply impacted. Since the team has returned, students from this trip have remained close and are focused on how they can go about living missionally right here in Evansville. This trip was truly an incredible experience for our high school students, and the name of Jesus was magnified. Thank you for being a part of CFC’s vision of “Glorifying God by Making Disciples of All People!” We can’t wait to worship with you on Sunday!

Whether graduating from high school or college or finishing a graduate-level degree program, this milestone represents years of hard work, growth, and God’s faithfulness throughout every season. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6 to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” As our graduates step into new opportunities and responsibilities, our prayer is that they would continue to seek the Lord first and walk in wisdom, humility, and bold faith wherever He leads them. To our high school graduates: we are incredibly proud of you and excited for what God has ahead! As you begin this next chapter, we would love for you to stay connected through our college-aged ministry — a place where you can continue to grow spiritually, build meaningful friendships, and remain rooted in Christ during these formative years. Whether you are continuing your education in college, entering the military, or going into the workforce, we want you to join us to grow in your walk with Christ. To our college graduates: congratulations on this tremendous accomplishment! As you transition into careers, graduate-level degrees, or marriage, we want to encourage you to get plugged in with our Young Adult Ministry. We believe biblical community remains essential in every stage of life, and we would love to walk alongside you in this next season. For info about our College and Young Adult Ministries, you can reach out to Becca Adams. Church family, thank you for continuing to pray for and invest in the next generation! We are grateful for what God is doing with these graduates, and we look forward to seeing how He works in and through them for His glory. See the list of graduates HERE. Congratulations, graduates!
CFC Study Questions: Power for Doing
Power for Doing by Pastor Dale BeaverRead Acts 2:1-4, 38-41 and 3 John 1:5-8.Pastor Dale shares a historical story about Andrew Fuller, who used the metaphor of a "gold mine" to describe the spiritual darkness and the vast need for the gospel in India in the 1790s. He asked, "Who will venture to explore it?" If we view the "gold mine" as the thousands of people who have never heard about Jesus, how does that change your perspective on the value of global missions?Historically, Pentecost was a Jewish celebration of the giving of the law at Mount Sinai and the harvest of the earth's first fruits. Pastor Dale explains that God sent the Holy Spirit on this specific day to show that Jesus is the fulfillment of both the law and the final spiritual harvest. Why is it significant for our faith to see God working through an intentional, historical timetable? At Mount Sinai, when the law was given, the people stood at a distance in terror; at Pentecost, the Spirit came close and settled directly on each person. Pastor Dale notes that while the law points out our sin and can lead to judgment, the Holy Spirit provides the courage and power to live righteously. How have you experienced the difference between trying to "follow rules" out of fear versus being empowered by God’s Spirit? The notes highlight that the Holy Spirit "settled on each of them," making every believer—not just special prophets or leaders—a living temple. Pastor Dale teaches that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead now resides in you for the purpose of reaching others. How does this truth impact your sense of personal significance and your ability to serve God?Read Acts 2:38-39. The promise of the Holy Spirit is for you, your children, and "those far away". Pastor Dale defines "far away" as distances that are spatial (geographical), ethnic (cultural), and generational (time). Which of these "distances" do you find most difficult to bridge in your own life or community? The sermon explains that the Holy Spirit bridges distances through subcultures—groups of people united by common interests. Pastor Dale shares how his own background in mechanics and racing allowed him to reach people who "had no idea what Easter was". What unique interests, hobbies, or skills do you have that could serve as a bridge to share God's love with people who don't know Him?Read 3 John 1:5-8. John describes those who support traveling teachers as "partners" or "fellow workers" (sun-ergoy). Pastor Dale emphasizes that your support is not a "financial transaction" but a theological connection where you are spiritually "with" the missionary in their work. How does this redefine your understanding of what it means to support a mission financially or through prayer? When missionary William Carey agreed to go to India, he told Andrew Fuller, "I will go down if you will hold the rope". Fuller "held the rope" for 21 years by raising funds, writing letters, and keeping the network alive while staying in England. In the "diving operation" of missions, do you feel more called to be the one "in the water" or the one "holding the line" on the surface? Why?Pastor Dale reflects on the founding vision of CFC, noting that, the "heartbeat" of the church remains focused on global outreach. How does being part of a community with a long-term commitment to reaching the world encourage your own walk with Christ? The church is launching an initiative to "do for one what you can't do for everyone" by encouraging every person to specifically stand with one of our global missionaries or partners. Who is one person or global region (like India, Bolivia, or Central Asia) that the Spirit might be prompting you to support?Close in Prayer: Thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit who makes us "living temples". Ask the Father for the courage to be a partner in His work, whether by going or by faithfully "holding the rope" for those who do.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Analogy for Understanding: Supporting a missionary is like being a support crew for a deep-sea diver. The diver can only explore the "gold mine" of the ocean floor if they are connected to a team on the surface that provides oxygen, communication, and safety. Whether you are the one in the water or the one on the deck, you are equally essential to the success of the mission, as you are both powered by the same life-sustaining connection.
CFC Sermon: Power for Doing
The Holy Spirit gives us power not just to go, but to stand with those who go. He calls some to cross the world. How will you go with them?Acts 2:1-4On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. The Old Covenant bursts into the New at Pentecost! On the very day Israel celebrated the harvest of the earth and the giving of the law, God gathered the nations to Jerusalem to experience a new harvest, a new covenant, and a new provision of the Holy Spirit.Acts 2:38-4138 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all."Those far away" (2:39) -- some have left everything to reach them."Those far away" extends spatially, ethnically, and generationally — as far as the gospel goes, the Spirit goes.-John StottActs 2:41Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.Going with one, we bring the gospel promise to all peoples.3 John 1: 5, 85 Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you... 8 So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth. If I am going to hang off the end of a rope at the other end of the world — will you hold the rope for me?-William Carey
