St. Petersburg Parks Launches Summer Swim Lesson Program

The City of St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation Department is making a splash this summer with the return of its Learn to Swim Program, designed to teach children and adults essential water safety skills in a supportive environment. Lessons begin in June 2025 and are available at all City pool locations. The program offers a variety of classes for all ages and skills levels starting at 6 months and up. With Florida consistently ranking among the highest in the nation for unintentional drowning deaths, particularly among children under the age of 5, learning to swim is a vital, life-saving skill. “Swim lessons are one of the most powerful tools we have to offer our community,” said Mike Jefferis, Community Enrichment Administrator for the City of St. Petersburg. “Our program helps children build confidence while giving parents peace of mind. It’s about making summer not only fun but safe for everyone.” A total of five sessions will be offered throughout the summer. Each session includes eight 30-to-45-minute classes, led by certified American Red Cross instructors. The cost is $39 per session per participant. Financial assistance is available for qualifying families. Registration is available online at stpeteparksrec.org/swimlessons or in-person at any City pool. Let’s work together to build a water-smart St. Pete. For more information about the Learn to Swim Program, visit stpeteparksrec.org or contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 727-893-7441.
