A Freeze Warning is in effect for Southern Trinity, Northeastern Interior Mendocino, and Northern Lake counties from 1 AM to 9 AM PDT on Monday, October 12. The National Weather Service (NWS) Eureka CA issued the warning at 3:00 PM PDT on October 11.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit are expected. Areas specifically affected include Gravelly Valley Airport in Northern Lake, Round Valley (including Covelo) in Northeastern Interior Mendocino, and Hayfork Valley, Peanut, the Highway 36 corridor from Mad River to Forest Glen, and Ruth in Southern Trinity.
These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents in the affected areas should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. The warning expires at 9 AM PDT on Monday.
