Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Bradford, Alachua, Clay, Putnam Counties
A strong thunderstorm is expected to bring 40 mph wind gusts and minor flooding to Bradford, Alachua, Clay, and Putnam counties until 5:00 PM EDT today, October 5, 2026. Seek shelter indoors and avoid flooded roads.
Residents in Bradford, Eastern Alachua, Western Clay, and Western Putnam counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm approaches. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately until 5:00 PM EDT today, October 5, 2026.
At 4:12 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm over Lake Geneva, near Melrose. The storm is moving east at 15 mph and is expected to bring wind gusts of around 40 mph and minor flooding due to heavy rainfall.
The primary hazards are gusty winds, which could dislodge tree limbs and unsecured objects, and localized flooding from torrential rainfall. Communities potentially affected include Keystone Heights, Melrose, Melrose Landing, George's Lake, Lake Geneva, Florahome, Orange Heights, Putnam Hall, and Carraway.
If you are outdoors in these areas, consider moving inside a building for safety. Additionally, motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways due to the risk of localized flooding.
