Strong Thunderstorm Approaches: Seek Shelter in Duval, Clay, St. Johns Counties
A strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 40 mph is approaching parts of Duval, Clay, and St. Johns counties; residents should seek indoor shelter until 7:30 PM EDT.
Residents in parts of Duval, Clay, and St. Johns counties should seek shelter indoors immediately as a strong thunderstorm approaches. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective until 7:30 PM EDT tonight, October 3.
At 6:52 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm over World Golf Village, approximately 10 miles southeast of Fruit Cove. This storm is moving north at 20 mph.
The primary hazard associated with this storm is wind gusts around 40 mph. These gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. Locations expected to be impacted include Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, UNF, Mandarin, Fruit Cove, Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville Beach, World Golf Village, Sawgrass, and Fleming Island.
If you are outdoors in these areas, please consider seeking shelter inside a sturdy building until the storm passes. The Special Weather Statement expires at 7:30 PM EDT.
