Residents in Union, Bradford, Alachua, Marion, Clay, Putnam, and Columbia counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately due to strong thunderstorms producing wind gusts of up to 40 mph. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 7:15 PM EDT tonight, October 9.
At 6:47 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a line of strong thunderstorms extending from near Gainesville to Lynne, moving north at 30 mph. These storms pose a hazard of gusty winds capable of knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects.
Locations that may be impacted include Gainesville, Lake Butler, Interlachen, Melrose, Worthington Spring, Fort McCoy, Citra, Lynne, Alachua, and High Springs.
In addition to strong winds, these storms are producing torrential rainfall, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are cautioned not to drive vehicles through flooded roadways. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northern and northeastern Florida until 9:00 PM EDT.
If you are outdoors, immediately seek shelter inside a sturdy building. Secure any loose outdoor items.
