Landspout Threatens Western Clay County; Seek Shelter Immediately
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Western Clay County, including Middleburg and Camp Blanding, due to a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout and 40 mph winds; residents should seek immediate indoor shelter.
Residents in Western Clay County, particularly near Camp Blanding, Middleburg, and surrounding areas, should seek shelter inside a building immediately due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL.
At 8:48 PM EDT, the NWS reported a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout and wind gusts around 40 mph. This storm, detected by Doppler radar, was located near Camp Blanding (approximately 7 miles south of Middleburg) and is moving north at 20 mph. The alert is effective until 9:15 PM EDT tonight, October 9, 2026.
Locations impacted include Middleburg, Kingsley, Oakleaf Plantation, Camp Blanding, Penney Farms, and Asbury Lake. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible, and gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Torrential rainfall is also accompanying this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised not to drive through flooded roadways. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northern and northeastern Florida until 9:00 PM EDT.
