A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL, warning residents of a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout. The alert is effective immediately, October 9, 2026, until 8:45 PM EDT.

At 8:16 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Kingsley, approximately 7 miles east of Starke, moving north at 25 mph. The primary hazards include landspouts and wind gusts around 40 mph.

Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible, and gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and dislodge unsecured items. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, seek shelter inside a sturdy building immediately.

Areas impacted include Starke, Interlachen, Keystone Heights, Melrose, Middleburg, Hawthorne, George's Lake, Lake Geneva, Florahome, and Camp Blanding. These locations span Bradford, Eastern Alachua, Western Clay, and Western Putnam counties.

Additionally, the NWS warns of torrential rainfall with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not attempt to drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northern Florida until 9:00 PM EDT.
