ASHLAND, Clay County – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Ashland and surrounding areas in Clay County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning is in effect until October 10 at 12:30 AM UTC.

Residents are advised to complete all preparations now before hazardous wind conditions arrive. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, posing a potential for limited wind damage. This includes damage to unanchored structures, broken tree limbs, and some power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Emergency plans should account for moderate flooding from an additional 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to significant impacts including swollen rivers, overflowing creeks, and hazardous driving conditions. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Furthermore, the situation is favorable for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be prepared to shelter quickly. If your shelter is vulnerable, consider relocating to a safer location before hazardous weather. Potential impacts include roof damage, downed trees, and power disruptions.
